The Firehouse on Morrill Avenue and V&T houses on Center Street are examples of adaptive reuse projects. Kelly Rae ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ) will present a slide show illustrating the adaptive reuse renovations of these two properties along with a thirty minute music video produced for the FireHouse project. It is very informative and chronicles the building from 1950 to the renovation completion.

Join Kim Henrick and Rosie Cevasco as they share the interesting and under-appreciated story of our state's early mental health history. Where were patients cared for before Nevada's first mental health hospital was built in 1882? How was the Glendale property acquired and what was located there before the asylum? How were local ditches used to facilitate agricultural efforts so integral to the facility's early operation. Who were the dedicated and sometimes controversial superintendents who ran the hospital during the early years? What behaviors were recorded as indicative of insanity in that era? Who were the architects who built the campus and what buildings are currently threatened? The answers to these questions and more will be presented along with stories of some of the more colorful patients admitted to the "Insane Asylum."
