The HRPS Board celebrated the end of another successful Tour Season at its monthly meeting on November 5th:

Community Involvement:

  • HRPS provided a customized tour of downtown for the National Tour Association which was in Reno in November, attracting 2,000 tourism industry professionals.
  • HRPS has requested that we be contacted with updated information about the Virginia Street bridge project. The lead federal agency has shifted to the Army Corps of Engineers.

Financial Support for HRPS:

  • The Fall Social was a success as both a fund raiser (about $1,500 raised) and a "friend" raiser since about 75 attendees had good food, an excellent program and good conversation.

Projects and Walking Tours:

  • Home Tour: A new committee was formed to develop a new event for 2010. The Tour would include historic and other homes of distinction, including sustainable features. If anyone is interested in serving on the committee or has suggestions, call Sharon at 843-3823.
  • Asylum Cemetery: the Board is investigating its role in the State's planned memorial efforts at the historic cemetery at Northern Nevada Adult Mental Health Services on Galletti Way.
  • Student Education Project: HRPS tour leaders recently led a tour for 62 children from Hidden Valley Elementary. Response to the flyer offering our program to the schools has generated more demand than can be met this school year.
