Board Meeting - January 2010 PDF Print E-mail

The HRPS Board wants to thank our many members who responded to the recent renewal mailing. Our membership now tops 600 and we are still seeing renewals trickle in.

We wasted no time in 2010 getting to business at the monthly Board meeting on January 7th:

Community Involvement:

  • Nevada Humanities Grant: The Board was pleased that our proposal was funded for $2,203 in a highly competitive field. HRPS will use the funding to underwrite costs for the Education Project (especially buses and educational items for the children) and for the website and research.
  • KUNR and the StoryCorps project: HRPS representatives will attend a Community Partnership meeting to learn more about how we can participate.
  • Washoe County Courthouse Activities book: the Board authorized to spend up to $2,000 for these booklets, as needed by the County. Funding from the County is in question and the Board thought the booklets are useful for our Education Project.

Projects and Walking Tours:

  • Home Tour: The committee continues their work on this June 2010 spectacular event. If anyone is interested in serving on the committee or has suggestions, call Sharon at 843-3823.
  • Movie Night: the 2010 Movie Night will move to the Studio on 4th, with the film Hilda Crane and another (to be determined) short. It was decided to stick to the May 26th date, in place of our regular monthly program and to establish the price at $10/ticket.
  • Powning Gateway: planning continues on creating a signature “gateway” to identify and educate about the Powning Conservation District. HRPS is awaiting the decision from the City of Reno Parks and Recreation whether the pillar should be placed in Lunsford Park or Centennial Park.
  • Student Education Project: The committee is looking forward to three upcoming tours with Elmcrest, Peavine and Veterans Elementary Schools.
  • Walking Tours: planning for the 2010 year is beginning and Tour Guides will meet in February to arrange the schedule.
